Bishnoi Village Safari Jodhpur | Official Wildlife & Cultural Tours

Where Nature is Religion

Join Bhagirath Bishnoi on a journey into the soul of Rajasthan. Witness the sacred bond between the Bishnoi community and the wild Blackbucks.

Our Heritage

More Than Just A Safari

Imagine a place where wild antelopes graze fearlessly in village courtyards, where women breastfeed orphaned fawns, and where cutting a green tree is considered a sin. This is not a fairy tale; this is the reality of the Bishnoi Community.

Following the 29 Principles (Niyams) laid down by Guru Jambheshwar in 1485 AD, we are the world’s first eco-warriors. Our history is written in blood—most notably the Khejarli Massacre of 1730, where 363 of our ancestors sacrificed their heads to save trees.

“When you visit us, you don’t just see wildlife. You witness a 500-year-old covenant between Man and Nature.”

“I did not learn about nature from books. I learned it by sleeping on the sand under the open sky, watching the stars and guarding the deer.”

The Pioneer's Journey

Why I Started the
Original Bishnoi Village Safari

Namaste. My name is Bhagirath Bishnoi.

In the crowded tourism market of Jodhpur, you will find dozens of operators selling tickets for a “Bishnoi Village Safari“. For many of them, it is just a product. They are city-dwellers, businessmen who see our culture through the window of an air-conditioned car. They hire drivers who need GPS to find the villages.

But for me, this is not a business. This is my life, my religion, and my identity.

Born in the Wild

I was born in a humble mud hut in the very villages you wish to visit. I did not grow up with luxury toys; my childhood companions were the wild Blackbucks and Chinkaras that roamed freely in our courtyard. I learned the 29 Principles of Guru Jambheshwar not in a school classroom, but from my grandmother’s stories under the sacred Khejri tree.

The Birth of the Best Village Safari in Jodhpur

Decades ago, I noticed something heartbreaking. Tourists were coming to Jodhpur looking for authentic experiences, but they were being taken to fake “tourist traps” where actors posed as villagers. They were leaving without seeing the soul of my land.

That is when I decided to start the Original Bishnoi Village Safari Jodhpur. My mission was simple: to offer the most authentic village tour in Rajasthan. I wanted to show the world the true bond between the Bishnoi people and nature.

Why We Are Jodhpur’s #1 Choice for Bishnoi Safari

Don’t just visit the village; experience it with the people who call it home.

100% Bishnoi Owned & Operated

Unlike other agencies run by outsiders, our founder Bhagirath is a native Bishnoi from the local village. We don’t just “show” the culture; we live it every day.

Pioneer of Village Tourism

Bhagirath Ji was one of the first to introduce authentic village tourism in Jodhpur. Our routes are exclusive and away from the crowded “tourist traps.”

Deep Cultural Expertise (29 Principles)

We provide an insider’s perspective on the 29 religious principles of the Bishnoi sect. Learn the true history of the Khejri tree martyrs from those who carry their bloodline.

Direct Wildlife Sightings

Because we live here, we know the exact movement of Blackbucks and Chinkaras. Our 4×4 Jeeps take you to the most silent, hidden spots for the perfect photograph.

Zero Middlemen – Best Price

Since you are booking directly with the village owners (Bishnoi Village Safari Jodhpur), you get the best rates without paying commission to city travel agents.

Support Local Artisans

Your visit directly benefits the village economy. We take you to real family workshops of potters and weavers, ensuring your tourism is sustainable and ethical.

“My promise to you is simple: I will show you the Real India. Not the one in brochures, but the one that breathes in the soil of Marwar.”

About Bishnoi Village: The Living Legend of the Thar

Located just on the outskirts of the “Blue City,” the Bishnoi Village in Jodhpur is not just a destination; it is a global symbol of environmental conservation. Founded on the 29 sacred principles of Guru Jambheshwar Ji in 1485, the residents here are known as the world’s first organized ecologists.

Unlike other rural tours, a visit to this village shows you a society where humans, animals, and trees live in total harmony. The community is famous for the Khejri Tree Massacre of 1730, where 363 Bishnois sacrificed their lives to protect trees. Today, when you walk through the village with Bhagirath Bishnoi, you see that same spirit alive in every home, every field, and every protected Blackbuck.

The Bhagirath Advantage: Door-to-Door Safari Experience Most tour operators expect you to find your own way to the village, which is 25km away from the city. This can be confusing and expensive for tourists.

We are the only Safari in Jodhpur that provides a “Hassle-Free Pickup”:

  • City Pickup & Drop: If you are staying anywhere in Jodhpur City (Hotels, Homestays, or the Airport/Railway Station), we send our dedicated vehicle to pick you up.

  • Direct Transfer: We bring you comfortably from the city to our village meeting point in our own transport.

  • End-to-End Service: Once your safari and traditional lunch are over, we drop you back safely at your Jodhpur hotel.

While our village is vibrant throughout the year, the experience changes with the seasons:

  1. Winter (October to March) – Highly Recommended: This is the peak season. The weather is pleasant (10°C to 25°C), and you can witness thousands of Migratory Birds like the Demoiselle Cranes at Guda Lake.

  2. Monsoon (July to September): The desert turns surprisingly green. It’s a beautiful time for photography and seeing the peacocks dance in the fields.

  3. Summer (April to June): It is hot, but this is the best time for Wildlife Sightings. Animals gather around the Guda Bishnoi Lake for water, making them very easy to spot.

Expert Travel Tips for Your Safari

  • Photography: Carry a zoom lens (200mm+) for the best wildlife shots at Guda Lake.

  • What to Wear: Light cotton clothes in summer; a heavy jacket for early morning winter safaris. Neutral colors (khaki, green) are best for wildlife spotting.

  • Respect the Culture: Always ask your guide, Bhagirath Ji, before taking close-up photos of village women or inside prayer rooms.

  • Stay Hydrated: We provide mineral water, but it’s always good to carry a hat and sunglasses for the desert sun.

Tourist Information

Everything You Need To Know

01. Who is the best safari operator for Bishnoi Village in Jodhpur?
+
The most authentic experience is provided by Bhagirath Bishnoi, a native resident of the village. Unlike city-based agencies, Bhagirath Ji is a pioneer who started this safari to preserve and showcase his own culture. Booking with a local Bishnoi owner ensures you see the real traditions, not a commercial setup.
02. Is pickup and drop-off available from Jodhpur city?
+
Yes! We are one of the only tour operators offering a complimentary pickup and drop-off service from your hotel, homestay, airport, or railway station in Jodhpur city. We take care of the 25km commute so you can enjoy the safari without any transport worries.
03. What makes Bhagirath Bishnoi’s safari unique compared to others?
+
Our biggest USP is our identity. Most competitors are businessmen from other communities. Bhagirath Ji is a Bishnoi by birth. This allows us to take you inside private family homes (Dhanis) and exclusive wildlife zones that are off-limits to outside commercial guides.
04. What animals can I see during the Guda Bishnoi Village Safari?
+
You can witness the Endangered Blackbuck, the Indian Gazelle (Chinkara), Blue Bulls (Nilgai), and Desert Foxes. Since the Bishnoi community protects these animals as sacred, they are very comfortable around our Jeeps, allowing for excellent photography.
05. What are the 29 principles of the Bishnoi community?
+
The Bishnois follow 29 commandments (Beesh+Noi) laid down by Guru Jambheshwar Ji in 1485. These rules focus on environmental protection, wildlife conservation, and simple living. We explain these principles in detail during our cultural tour.
06. Are there any camera fees or extra charges for wildlife photography at Guda Lake?
+
Unlike many national parks in India, there are currently no extra camera fees for photography during our Bishnoi Village Safari. We encourage photographers to capture the beauty of the Blackbucks and the village life. Bhagirath Ji, being a local, knows the exact "Golden Hour" spots for the best lighting and angles.
07. Do you take us to Salawas for weaving?
+
No. To ensure authenticity, we take you to private weaving looms located inside the Bishnoi Village. While Salawas is a commercial hub, our weavers are local Bishnois who create reversible, hand-knotted Durries (rugs) using ancestral techniques right in their homes.
08. Is the traditional Rajasthani lunch hygienic?
+
Absolutely. The lunch is a "Farm-to-Table" experience prepared by our family on a traditional clay stove (Chulha). We use 100% organic ingredients from our own farms. It is healthy, fresh, and cooked with high standards of cleanliness.
09. What is the best time of day to start the safari?
+
We recommend the Morning Safari (8:00 AM) for bird watching and cool weather, or the Afternoon Safari (2:30 PM) for the best wildlife sightings as animals move toward the Guda Lake for water.
10. How long does the full Bishnoi Village Safari take?
+
The total experience, including the Jodhpur city pickup and drop-off, takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. This includes all 7 sightseeing points and the traditional lunch.
11. Is the safari suitable for elderly travelers and children?
+
Yes. Our 4x4 Open Jeeps are well-maintained and comfortable. We keep the pace of the tour relaxed, making it perfect for families, photographers, and senior citizens.
12. What should I wear for the village safari?
+
We suggest wearing neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, or beige) to blend in with the environment. Comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, and a hat are essential for the desert sun.
13. Can I buy authentic handicrafts directly from the villagers?
+
Yes. We visit local pottery and weaving workshops where you can buy directly from the artisans. This ensures that your money helps the local village economy without any middlemen involved.
14. Why is the Khejri tree sacred to the Bishnois?
+
The Khejri tree is our lifeline. In 1730, 363 Bishnois sacrificed their lives to protect these trees from being cut down. We will take you to the sites that commemorate this legendary sacrifice.
15. Do we need to book the safari in advance?
+
Since we provide personalized tours and city pickups, we recommend booking at least 24 to 48 hours in advance, especially during the peak tourist season (October to March).
16. What migratory birds visit Guda Bishnoi Lake?
+
During winter, you can spot the Demoiselle Cranes (Kurjan), Pelicans, Black-necked Storks, and various species of ducks that travel from Eurasia to our village lake.
17. Is the pottery demonstration interactive?
+
Yes! Unlike other tours where you just watch, we encourage our guests to sit at the manual stone wheel and try their hand at shaping the desert clay under the master potter’s guidance.
18. What is 'Ker Sangri' served in the lunch?
+
Ker Sangri is a legendary desert delicacy made from the berries (Ker) and beans (Sangri) of local trees. It is a nutritious, flavorful dish that is a must-try for any food lover visiting Rajasthan.
19. Are your guides fluent in English?
+
Yes, our guides (including Bhagirath Ji) speak English and Hindi fluently and are experts at explaining the complex history and ecology of the region.
20. Is the Bishnoi Safari safe for solo female travelers?
+
Extremely safe. Our business is family-run, and we treat every guest as a member of our own community. Our door-to-door pickup and drop-off service from Jodhpur hotels adds an extra layer of safety.
21. Can we customize the safari itinerary?
+
Yes, because we are the direct owners, we can customize the tour based on your interests—whether you want to spend more time on wildlife photography or deep-diving into the textile weaving process.
